Dr Catherine Barton-Sweeney is a warm, compassionate, and insightful Counselling Psychologist who is deeply committed to fostering genuine connections with those she supports. With over two decades of experience, including extensive work within the NHS in both inpatient and secondary care community settings, as well as seven years in private practice prior to this as a skilled psychotherapist, Dr Barton-Sweeney brings a wealth of expertise and understanding to her work. Her practice is dedicated to helping adults navigate a wide range of psychological challenges, including trauma, anxiety, low mood, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Her goal is to provide a safe, empathetic space where clients feel truly heard and understood, allowing them to explore their experiences and build a path toward healing and resilience.
Dr Barton-Sweeney’s approach is grounded in both humanistic and attachment-based principles, emphasising the importance of building a trusting therapeutic relationship. She is a trained mindfulness and meditation coach, integrating these practices into her sessions to help clients cultivate inner calm and resilience. As a qualified Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) practitioner, she skilfully guides individuals through the healing process, helping them address and move beyond past traumas to regain a sense of peace and wellbeing. Her thoughtful, holistic approach, combined with evidence-based methods like compassion-focused therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy, ensures that each client’s unique needs are met with care and expertise.
