Counselling Psychologist
Dr Josephine Swede is a Counselling Psychologist who has worked across a range of therapeutic settings, including the NHS, private practice, and the charity sector. She works with adults experiencing a wide range of difficulties, including generalised anxiety, social anxiety, low self-esteem and confidence, depression and low mood, trauma-related difficulties, stress and burnout, health anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), and relational challenges.
Dr Swede has particular experience supporting city professionals and individuals working in high-stress, high-pressure environments. She understands the unique challenges these contexts can present and works collaboratively with clients to tailor therapy in a way that is both meaningful and practical within the realities of their lives.
She also has expertise in supporting individuals on the autism spectrum, those exploring this identity, or those considering seeking a diagnosis. Dr Swede is committed to providing neuro-affirming, strengths-based support that recognises and values each person’s unique way of experiencing the world.
Dr Swede takes an integrative, person-centred approach to therapy, drawing on a range of evidence-based models. Her work most commonly incorporates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), alongside elements of Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and schema-informed approaches. She offers a collaborative and compassionate therapeutic space, working with clients to facilitate meaningful change through both thoughtful reflection and the development of practical skills.
Alongside her clinical work, Dr Swede has extensive experience working as an expert witness with asylum seekers, victims of human trafficking, and individuals facing immigration uncertainty. This work informs her understanding of the psychological impact of trauma, displacement, and prolonged uncertainty, as well as the particular therapeutic needs of those who have experienced multiple adversities alongside ongoing systemic challenges.
Dr Swede remains mindful that psychological wellbeing is shaped not only by personal experiences but also by wider relational, cultural, and societal contexts. She is committed to creating an inclusive and respectful therapeutic space for individuals of all backgrounds and identities, and to applying psychological understanding in a way that is thoughtful, flexible, and responsive to each person’s unique circumstances.
